I know that on Vis island and other parts of Dalmatia, traditional festivals, mostly connected to the celebration of catholic saints, are held during the whole year. In Komiza, according to centuries-old tradition, in front of the parish church of St. Nicholas on December 6th during St. Nicholas day celebration, a wooden boat is ignited for the salvation of all the ships and sailors of the world. It is really impressive. Other idea is to participate in everyday activities with locals, especially those in relation with olive oil production, wine harvesting or fishing. All these activities are part of life of families in Dalmatia and Vis island and if you are open minded and enjoy in a field work, then visit Komiza in any time of year and you're going to love it.
